Today is your very last chance to influence the new National Curriculum

The Government's National Curriculum consultation ends today (8 August). If you want a better citizenship curriculum and haven't responded to the consultation, we urge you to do so by 5pm.

The Citizenship Foundation is not satisfied with the draft national curriculum (pdf). We want the Department for Education to:
  • Include a clearer requirement to teach about human rights
  • Clarify that active citizenship is not just volunteering, but involves genuine social and democratic action
  • Enhance the new requirement for financial education so that it includes an understanding of public finance
  • Ensure key stage 3 does not focus solely on the UK
  • Improve the subject aims
  • Show appropriate progression between key stages 3 and 4, especially in key areas such as the law
  • Make citizenship a statutory entitlement for primary school children.

(Campaigner Liz Moorse explains this in more detail on Democratic Life's website.)

If you share these concerns, or have some of your own, please tell the consultation by 5pm this evening, before the National Curriculum is finalised. It's easy; you can:
