Bar National Mock Trial Competition: full list of finalists

All regional heats for the Bar National Mock Trial Competition have now taken place for 2013. The winner of each heat will go to the national final in Cardiff in March.

In the Bar National Mock Trial Competition, young people from all over Britain pit their legal wits against each other in real crown courts.

It involves 2,000 students in years 10 to 13, 300 barristers and advocates and 90 judges.

There are sixteen regional heats every autumn. The winner of each goes through to the national final in the following spring. 

The heats took place over three weekends in November, with the final three last Saturday. The winners of those are:

  • QE Academy Trust, Devon (Plymouth heat)
  • St Alban’s RC High School, Pontypool (Cardiff heat)
  • The North Halifax Grammar School, Halifax (Leeds heat) 
So, the sixteen finalists for this year are:
  • Alcester Grammar School (Birmingham heat)
  • Alton College (Surrey heat)
  • Aquinas Grammar School (Northern Ireland heat)
  • The Becket School (Nottingham heat)
  • The Boswells Academy Trust (Chelmsford heat)
  • Mackie Academy (Scotland heat)
  • North Halifax Grammar School (Leeds heat)
  • QE Academy Trust (Plymouth heat)
  • Queen Mary's College (Reading heat)
  • St Alban’s RC High School, Pontypool (Cardiff heat)
  • St Peter's Catholic Comprehensive School (Bournemouth heat)
  • Spalding High School (Norwich heat)
  • Tunbridge Wells Girls' Grammar School (London heat)
  • Upton Hall School FCJ (Newcastle heat)
  • Wilmslow High School (Manchester heat)
  • Wirral Grammar School for Girls (Liverpool heat).

Congratulations to all of them, who will meet at the national final in Cardiff Crown Court.

Commiserations to those that haven't made it through to the final, but well done to everyone - students, teachers, lawyers and court staff - for their hard work and dedication.
