Nicky Morgan tells schools to 'develop active citizens'

Education Secretary Nicky Morgan has told schools that one of her priorities is to help them develop 'active citizens'.

In her New Year message to teachers, Morgan said she will be 'supporting schools to develop pupils into well-rounded, confident, happy and resilient individuals to boost their academic attainment, employability and ability to engage in society as active citizens'.

We wonder what that will mean in practice, but we hope it will include a renewed interest from Government in formal, universal citizenship education.
