> help pupils appreciate the nature of the current tragedy and why this has become the biggest ever charity appeal the world has seen;
> enable teachers to address pupils’ concerns and worries and focus thoughts on how to provide constructive help for the aid effort;
> explain the relationship between governments and voluntary sector organisations, and explore the role of public and private finances in giving international aid.
