Paying for It is a free educational resource for teaching economic awareness and is designed to engage young people (aged 14-18) with the UK’s current economic issues. It provides innovative and participatory lesson plans, teacher training, regular e-newsletters, up to date news and the popular interactive competition – Chance to be Chancellor. It is run by the Citizenship Foundation, in partnership with Aviva.

Our series of lesson plans contain relevant activities that encourage students to understand what the country’s economy is and how it works. They also provide the opportunity for students to discuss and debate the challenges that face our economy, and to consider the consequences of decisions around taxation to raise revenue, and spending the revenue on different public services.

Following on from Paying for It’s lesson plans ’Chance to be Chancellor’ enables young people to make their own decisions as if they were the Chancellor. The interactive online challenge launches in January 2012 and engages young people in the government’s plans for taxation and public spending.
